Conservation Strategy Group (CSG) is pleased to announce that we now provide a full suite of federal consulting and advocacy services.
CSG is providing federal services for California clients seeking to improve relationships, effectuate outreach to key Congressional representatives, secure Federal funding for state and regional priorities, and impact joint federal/state/regional efforts.
CSG’s federal services will offer clients strong connections to California’s Congressional delegation, including key policy makers on the House Natural Resources Committee, Transportation and Infrastructure (including the Water, Resources, and Environment Subcommittee), Senate Energy Public Works and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committees among others, and with key appropriators in the water, resources, and transportation arena. CSG will also provide clients conduits to direct engagement with multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), and others.
CSG’s federal practice is led by Senior Policy Advisors Mark Smith and Graham Chisholm, who bring decades of strategic experience and a vision for connecting CSG’s California clients with the latest federal policies and funding programs.
Mark Smith has an extensive background in California state and federal policy and politics, including over 14 years of experience in California and western state water issues, federal land conservation, climate change, natural resource, and transportation/infrastructure policy. Mark has served as a Legislative Director in the California Senate and Assembly and has extensive relationships with California’s Congressional delegation, key natural resources policy staff, and appropriations leadership and staff in the House and Senate. As the former Western Region Policy Director for Ducks Unlimited he actively worked on conservation funding programs, including the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), partnering with NRCS and Department of Ag on working lands programs, engagement on Farm Bill issues, the Water and Related Resources Development Act (WRRDA), and promoting restoration programs with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Graham Chisholm brings more than 20 years of experience working in executive and leadership positions in the land and water conservation movement. He has served as Executive Director with The Nature Conservancy (California and Nevada Programs) and Audubon California. Graham served on the Executive Committee for the Proposition 84 campaign. He served as an assistant to U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey (Nebraska) in Washington D.C. on natural resource issues and has worked actively with federal agencies and congressional offices on land and water conservation projects and conservation funding. He has also been actively engaged in efforts to reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
